Position
The Logistics Supervisor – Transportation, Air & Fleet Operations (Day Shift) oversees daytime transportation operations, including air cargo coordination, ground courier routes, and fleet management, ensuring accurate and timely transport of medical specimens across multiple laboratory and satellite locations.
This role reports to the Logistics Manager and works in close partnership with the Evening Logistics Supervisor to ensure operational continuity across shifts. This position directly supervises Air Couriers, Day Ground Couriers, and Lead Couriers and is responsible for operational performance related to route coverage, shipment tracking, flight coordination, and vehicle readiness. The Supervisor partners closely with Dispatch and Logistics leadership to resolve time-sensitive transport issues and maintain service-level standards. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong operational judgment and the ability to step in to support field operations when needed.
Schedule
Tuesday through Saturday, daytime hours
Flexibility is required to address operational needs outside standard hours as business demands change.
This position includes both in-office and on-the-road responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Manage and assign weekly schedules for Air Couriers, Day Ground Couriers, and Lead Couriers to ensure complete route coverage across multiple sites
- Oversee air cargo coordination, including Airway Bills (AWBs), flight bookings, cargo logs, shipment tracking, drop-offs, pickups, and cutoff times
- Monitor and proactively manage flight delays, cancellations, reroutes, and specimen handoffs
- Ensure proper packaging, documentation, and compliance with transportation standards
- Oversee fleet operations, including vehicle scheduling, servicing coordination, maintenance tracking, and compliance monitoring
- Monitor vehicle tracking systems to ensure fleet safety and operational readiness
- Review and approve timecards, time-off requests, expenses, and corrective actions in Paycom
- Conduct team check-ins and one-on-one coaching sessions
- Participate in interviewing, onboarding, and training of new team members
- Partner with Dispatch on route optimization, shipment discrepancies, incident reports, and operational inefficiencies
- Collaborate with the Evening Logistics Supervisor on air operations, transport delays, fleet coordination, and quality assurance
- Address courier errors, missed or at-risk pickups, and service disruptions with cross-functional partners
- Serve as backup for courier and air courier coverage as needed
- Support STAT runs, airport runs, and other priority stops as required
- Audit logistics reporting, including Dispatch, Courier, Incident, Flagged, Error, and Delay reports, identifying trends and recommending process improvements
- Monitor handoff and cutoff times to ensure adherence to service-level standards
- Maintain safety, compliance, and professional service standards
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Logistics leadership
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Lead or Supervisor in transportation, logistics, courier operations, shipping and receiving, warehouse operations, freight coordination, or last-mile delivery
- Minimum 2+ years of courier or delivery driving experience
- Strong understanding of transportation management, route coordination, and time-sensitive delivery operations
- Valid driver’s license with driving record that meets company insurability requirements
- Must meet minimum eligibility requirements for operating company vehicles under insurance guidelines
- Ability to use a smartphone for business-related communication and operational coordination
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
- Willingness to provide hands-on operational support in the field when needed
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently throughout the shift
- Comfortable working in office and outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating air cargo operations, Airway Bills (AWBs), flight bookings, or shipment tracking highly preferred
- Experience with fleet management systems or vehicle compliance tracking
- Experience in dispatch, shipping/receiving, warehouse supervision, or freight operations
- Experience supporting multi-site transportation operations
- Experience auditing operational or logistics reporting
- Training, coaching, or team development experience
- Experience working in regulated or time-sensitive environments (healthcare, laboratory, freight, or similar)
- Experience with Paycom or similar HRIS/timekeeping systems
