Position
Rocky Mountain Laboratories is seeking a part-time Specimen Collector – Pediatrics to support specimen collection services for a pediatric clinic partner in Las Vegas. This role focuses on collecting diagnostic specimens from pediatric patients, including respiratory swabs and urine samples, while ensuring accurate labeling, documentation, and proper specimen handling. The Specimen Collector plays an important role in maintaining specimen integrity while providing a calm and supportive experience for pediatric patients and their families.
This position is a great opportunity for individuals seeking medical assistant, phlebotomy, laboratory assistant, or specimen collection experience in a clinical setting. Schedule: Monday to Friday
- Monday & Wednesday: 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM
- Tuesday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
- Thursday & Friday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Responsibilities:
- Collect pediatric specimens, including respiratory swabs and urine samples, in accordance with established procedures.
- Verify patient identity using established procedures prior to specimen collection.
- Verify patient information and accurately label all specimens with appropriate identifiers.
- Enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Ensure proper specimen handling, storage, and transport to maintain specimen integrity.
- Prepare specimens for transport and ensure proper packaging according to laboratory protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation and follow laboratory protocols and compliance standards.
- Provide clear instructions and compassionate communication with pediatric patients and their parents or guardians during the specimen collection process.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following infection control procedures.
- Monitor and restock specimen collection supplies and notify supervisors when inventory is low.
- Communicate effectively with clinic staff and laboratory personnel to support efficient workflow.
- Assist with additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Nevada Laboratory Assistant License (required).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, especially when interacting with pediatric patients and families.
- Comfortable interacting with pediatric patients in a clinical environment.
- Basic computer skills and ability to enter information accurately into electronic systems.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform specimen collection tasks in a clinical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a phlebotomist, medical assistant, CNA, or related healthcare credential.
- Previous experience with specimen collection, pediatric patient interaction, or clinical environments.
- Experience with laboratory information systems or electronic medical records.
Job Type: Part-time W2 Team Member
Salary: $17.00 – $19.00 per hour (based on experience)
Ability to commute/relocate:
Las Vegas, NV: Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (Required)
Ideal start date: March 30, 2026
