Position
We are hiring a Male Specimen Collector (Mobile) to support our Draper operations. This hybrid, part-time role combines observed toxicology collections for male patients with mobile specimen pickup and delivery across partner clinics. You’ll represent the lab in the field and play a key role in ensuring timely and accurate diagnostics.
Responsibilities:
- Drive a company vehicle to travel between patient sites and clinics during assigned shifts
- Perform directly observed urine collections for male patients following strict protocol and privacy standards
- Ensure all specimens are labeled accurately and transported securely
- Enter patient and specimen data into the lab’s LIS (Laboratory Information System)
- Prepare and maintain chain-of-custody documentation and route logs
- Provide responsive communication to dispatch, supervisors, and clinical staff
- Manage supplies (collection kits, PPE, transport bags) and request replenishment when needed
- Handle unexpected issues during collection or transport professionally and promptly
- Perform daily vehicle readiness checks (cleanliness, fuel, condition)
- Assist with overflow, emergency collections, or adjusted routing as needed
- Represent the company with courtesy, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times
- Follow HIPAA, OSHA, and internal infection control policies
- Attend periodic compliance training and check-ins with supervisors
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- One of the following:
- At least 1 year of experience preferred in delivery driving, medical transport, or
- Recently certified in a patient-facing healthcare role (e.g., MA, EMT, CNA)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Must have personal liability auto insurance
- Comfortable handling specimens, including bodily fluids (urine)
- Ability to lift 30 lbs and frequently get in and out of a vehicle
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation
- Basic computer and smartphone proficiency (email, data entry, navigation apps)
- Professional communication skills and a strong customer service mindset
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA and privacy protocols
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow time-sensitive routing
- Previous experience performing directly observed collections or chain-of-custody procedures
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or mobile data entry systems
- Comfortable working independently and troubleshooting basic issues in the field
- Prior experience in a regulated setting (e.g., healthcare, toxicology, law enforcement)
Education:
Certification in phlebotomy, CNA, or a related field is a plus, but not required
All positions require time zone awareness, including the impact of daylight saving time, as we are a multi-state organization with teams and partners across different U.S. time zones. Clear communication and timely coordination are essential.
BFOQ Note:
Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, a Bona Fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ) permits sex-based hiring when gender is reasonably necessary to the job. This applies to directly observed collections, which must be performed by a collector of the same sex to maintain patient privacy and regulatory compliance.
Schedule:
- Monday: 5:30 AM – 9:30 AM (includes observed collections from 6:15–7:30 AM)
- Tuesday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Wednesday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Thursday: 5:30 AM – 8:30 AM (includes observed collections from 6:15–7:30 AM)
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Total: ~20 hours per week, with potential for additional hours
W2 hourly employees receive an 8% shift differential for hours worked between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., as well as for all hours worked on Saturdays and Sundays.
